“I am happy that we are working synergistically with all the Municipalities of the Alcantara Valley – in particular with Castiglione di Sicilia and Motta Camastra -, and with the River Park”. Francesco Russo Morosoli, CEO of Gole Alcantara srl, said this, returning to the importance of asking for UNESCO recognition for the Valley.
“My commitment – he reiterated – is to try to obtain it. And I am happy with this synergy because it would allow us to put the whole Valley into a system: the small Gorges, little known, the Gurne, definitely worth valorising. We can, all together, work really well for the development of the territory”.
The declaration follows the meetings on the Alkantia Project, which, born aroundDante’s Inferno – the most watched outdoor theater show in Sicily in recent years – is being enriched with interesting details. Meanwhile, while bookings are growing onlinethe actors’ rehearsals for this renewed edition continue on the riverbed, in view of the debut on the 23rd which will be preceded by the usual preview for the Press and Authorities on the 21st of July. AND “Before Preview”, the initiatives of the Season will be illustrated by Salvo La Rosa, who will also speak, with the director Giovanni Anfuso, about this new Hell in which the new vision of the main character is central: a Dante Alighieri played by Luigi Nicotra, marked by empathy and suffering and fascinated by the unknown.
“But let’s not forget – said Anfuso, who is also the author of the play – all the other actors who have contributed to the success of this theatrical work since 2018”.
We are talking about Liliana Randi (tourist), Davide Sbrogiò (Count Ugolino), Salvo Piro (Virgilio), Giovanna Mangiù (Francesca and Angelo), Davide Pandolfo (Ciacco). And then the new additions: Federico Fiorenza (Charonte), William Caruso (Farinata), Ivan Giambirtone (Ulysses), and Peter Passalacqua (Paolo, Diomede and archbishop Ruggeri). And with them the damned: Chiara Di Giovanni, Giulia De Marzi, Alessia Linguaglossa, Marta Marino, Gaia Palmeri, Lucio Rapisarda, Francesco Rotatore, Emiliano Sgroi, Gloria Trischitta and Federica Zuccarello. The costumes are by Riccardo Cappello, the choreography by Fia Distefano, the music by Nello Toscano, the scenic elements are signed by Silver Ruggeri and the light designer by Davide La Colla. The assistant directors are Micaela De Grandi, Valentina Ferrante, Davide Pandolfo and Lucia Rotondo.
Thus, stimulated by the theatrical activity in progress, the territory of the Valley is moving. And Carmelo Calabrò underlined how the Alcantara River Park has every interest in ensuring that cultural phenomena such as Hell develop in the Valley.
“The Gorges – he said – are a unique natural setting in the world, which, thanks to the extraordinary work done by the producers, director and actors, have stimulated, with these shows site specificincredibly strong emotions that other places can hardly give. But in the Park territory there are also many other fascinating places which, thanks to the Alkantia Project, we will be able to discover from a cultural perspective also to the many tourists who choose to visit the Valley in a widespread way”.
Among these, the mayor of Motta Camastra underlined, “also events such as the Walnut Festival, and initiatives such as that of Village mothersthe first widespread restaurant in Sicily”.
The story is reminiscent of the one narrated in Nonnasa 2025 American film set in Staten Island, based on a true story and starring, among others, stars such as Susan Sarandon and Talia Shire.
“Even here in Motta – said Carmelo Blancato -, ladies, extraordinary cooks, prepare incredibly good traditional Sicilian recipes. And they don’t do it in the cold kitchen of a restaurant, but in their own homes. Then, the traveling meal is consumed among the welcoming alleys of our town, in a unique atmosphere, which makes everyone feel at home, wherever they come from”.
Concetto Stagnitti, for his part, returned to the recognition of the title of city for Castiglione di Sicilia, an honor granted by decree of the President of the Republic to centers distinguished for their historical, cultural and artistic relevance.
“THE’Dante’s Inferno – he said – it will certainly bring further development, from a tourism point of view, to the Valley. And since the part of the Gorges where the show is performed is located in the territory of our city, the incentive will certainly be mainly cognitive. We will be involved in this to make all the attractions of the area better known.”
