In November, the growth rate of “shopping cart” prices rose to +2.6% while underlying inflation stood at +1.9%. This was announced by Istat. Which specifies in a note that the prices of food, home and personal care goods are accelerating on a trend basis from +2.0% to +2.6%, as are those of high-frequency purchase products (from +1.0% to +1.8%).
The cyclical stability of the general index reflects the opposite dynamics of various components: on the one hand, the growth in prices of regulated energy goods (+2.7%), unprocessed food goods (+1.5%) and processed (+0.8%) and Housing-related Services (+0.3%); on the other, the decrease in prices of recreational, cultural and personal care services (-1.2%). The acquired inflation for 2024 is equal to +1.0% for the general index and +2.0% for the underlying component.
Based on preliminary estimates, the harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP) records a zero change on a monthly basis and a change of +1.6% on an annual basis (accelerating from +1.0% in October).
