The Aragonese fortress of Le Castella, historical and tourist symbol of the Ionian Calabrian coast, It will remain closed to the public from 30 June to 10 July 2025 for extraordinary maintenance interventions. This was announced by the Institute of the Archaeological Parks of Crotone and Sibari, in whose management skills the site falls. The scheduled works provide for the consolidation of the structures, the safety of the exposed areas and works of the ancient walls, with the aim of protecting and enhancing one of the most iconic cultural heritage in the region.
“A gesture of love towards history, to make it last for a long time”, reads a short note spread on the official social channels of the entity. The reopening of the site is scheduled for July 10 with a significant novelty for visitors: During the summer, the fortress will be open every day from 8:30 until midnight. An initiative that will allow you to admire the castle also in the evening, between suggestive lights, crystal clear sea and spectacular landscapes. The extension of the time is part of the enhancement plan of cultural heritage promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the Archaeological Parks of Calabria, aimed at improving the accessibility and use of regional archaeological sites.
