Great day for Italian tennis at Roland Garros. Four Italians reached the second round, three for men and one for women. Cobolli, Darderi and Zeppieri qualified as well as Sara Errani.
It took Flavio Cobolli 4 sets and 5 match points to beat Serbian Hamad Mededovi in the first round of the French Open. Fresh from a semi-final in Ginvera, lost 7-6 in the third to Ruud, the Roman tennis player won with a score of 6-2/6-3/6-7/6-3.
After Flavio Cobolli, Luciano Darderi and Giulio Zeppieri also enter the second round of Roland Garros, the second Slam of the current season on the red clay courts of the Parisian complex. The 22-year-old Italian-Argentine, number 40 ATP, prevailed over the Australian Rinky Hijikata (78) with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (6), 6-1. The Latina tennis player, number 148 in the world, beat the home tennis player, the French Adrian Mannarino, 22nd seed, in four sets: 4-6, 6-2, 6-1, 6-2.
Sara Errani also flies to the second round: the Italian defeated the Slovakian Schmiedlova (number 54 in the WTA ranking) in two sets: 6-3, 6-2.
