“The picture of the last 72 hours demonstrates a clear desire to eliminate Countercurrent from the debate within the so-called alternative camp to Schifani. Evidently some subjects do not see our movement as a resource that speaks to the hearts of Sicilians, and that brings an electorate back to the vote that no other movement is able to bring back, but as a ‘dangerous’ subject that outside of any scheme scares its own allies who, perhaps, are afraid of losing consensus. We don’t like political jargon and it is it is right that the Sicilians know that, at the moment, our choice is to withdraw from the progressive camp, a confused camp in which everything is often valid. Where space is offered to those who say “France or Spain as long as it is great”. This is what the regional deputy and leader of Controcorrente, Ismaele La Vardera, says.

“We reaffirm our position of coherence and intransigent opposition. Furthermore, we apologize to our colleagues who felt ‘offended’ by the fake amendment and who, instead of asking for Dagnino’s resignation, preferred to attack us. On 14 February, one year after the birth of Controcorrente, in Palermo we will launch our program for a different Sicily that starts from those brilliant minds who no longer have space in politics. We will demonstrate that our strength lies in ideas. clear and the right backbone to really change this land. We wish others good work, aware that Sicily asks for clarity and a truly coherent field. We are aware that this position of political isolation, through no fault of ours, is “dangerous” and exposes us to attacks from many fronts. But we are calm, because we are not for sale, with clear ideas and while we wait for this progressive field to clear its minds and come to its senses in the method and merit of the participants. we prefer to continue autonomously. We also announce that we will not participate, from now until a later date, in meetings both at the regional table and in those for the administrative ones in the Municipalities”.
