An hour and a half to reiterate clearly and decisively that no, “there are no debts”. The former mayor Paolo Mascaro and the former budget councilor Sandro Zaffina have no doubts and draw attention to what could, at this point, be defined as yet another “divergence” of views, if not of actual communication, in the management modus of the accounts of an organization which «as of 12 June 2025 presented for the extraordinary cash audit 34 million and 737 thousand euros and a free cash of 7 million and 709 thousand euros – cards in hand, both Mascaro and Zaffina – a local authority that when I arrived had -11 million in treasury. But if some administrator thought that having free cash meant taking that money to do what you want with it, he or she should go and study public accounting: having free cash avoids passive interest borne by citizens – continues Mascaro – it means being able to pay everyone immediately, but it doesn’t mean that you can use that money as you wish because it is linked to the commitments already made in the budget chapters”.
