On November 27th, at 11 am, the University of Messina will award the honorary Master’s Degree in Law to Paola Cortellesi. The ceremony will be held in the Aula Magna of the Rectorate and will see the participation of academic authorities, students and numerous guests.

The recognition was approved unanimously by the Academic Senate in the session of 28 May 2024 and subsequently approved by the Ministry of University and Research. The choice was based on the desire of the Department of Law to enhance the contribution that the actress, screenwriter and director has offered to the civil and cultural debate of the country.

Specifically, the movie There’s still tomorrow it has been indicated as a work capable of dealing with central themes of republican history with sensitivity and rigor, relating law, society and the path of female emancipation. Through an immediate and empathetic cinematic language, Cortellesi has managed to transform complex legal and social issues into an accessible and engaging experience, helping to stimulate public reflection, especially among the new generations.

According to the University, the artist’s work demonstrates how cinema can have a profound impact on collective consciousness, sometimes more than traditional dissemination tools. For this reason, the University of Messina has recognized a strong educational and civic value in its work, perfectly in line with the cultural and scientific mission of the institution.

The ceremony on November 27th will therefore represent not only a tribute to Paola Cortellesi’s career, but also a moment of discussion on the role of art in the formation and promotion of democratic values.
