The Structure for combating hydrogeological instability has announced tenders for three interventions for the consolidation and safety of the territory, in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, in the Messina area, for a total of 1.5 million euros.
«In the overall work of protecting the territory – comments the president of the Sicilian Region Renato Schifani, at the top of the Structure – the planning activity is confirmed as decisive not only in terms of a timely response to the fragility of the soil, but also for a profitable rationalization of available resources. It is a winning method that we intend to develop and strengthen.”
The interventions planned by the offices directed by Maurizio Croce concern the works for the arrangement of a portion of territory to protect the state road 113 on the Palermo side, the consolidation of a stretch of via Leopardi and the stabilization of the slope between vicolo III Colonna and via Turati in the hamlet of Portosalvo.
The first intervention, on an area overlooking the State Road 113, on the border with the Municipality of Terme Vigliatore, characterized by the accentuated slope of the slope and already heavily damaged by the flood rains of 2020. In the area there is a degrading landslide which compromises the traffic system. The planned works consist of the construction of two reinforced concrete bulkheads and solutions for the conveyance of rainwater through a sized system with prefabricated wells and cast iron grates. Furthermore, the road surface will be restored through the scarification and subsequent laying of bituminous conglomerate for a width of two and a half meters and for the entire length of the intervention area. The amount of the tender is 645 thousand euros, the deadline for submitting applications is January 26, 2024.
For the consolidation of a section of Via Giacomo Leopardi, the project involves the stabilization of the slope and the resurfacing of the road system, the placement of drainage works, the restoration of the road surface and the related bituminisation as well as the installation of safety road barriers . Over the years, the area subject to intervention has undergone a series of landslides which have compromised its stability, causing phenomena of solifluction, cracks and more or less deep surface sliding. In this case, the total amount of the contract is 629 thousand euros and the deadline for submitting applications for participation is 8 February 2024.
Also of great importance is the third intervention which concerns the consolidation of the slope between Vicolo III Colonna and Via Turati in the hamlet of Portosalvo. On the northern side of the promontory, provincial road 85 develops, an urban stretch crossed by via Filippo Turati which, with a route parallel to state road 113, allows you to reach the first houses of the town. The damage caused by the violent storms of summer 2020 is still clearly visible in an area that is particularly vulnerable from a hydrogeological point of view. The design solutions consist of the reconstitution and protection of the slope using naturalistic engineering techniques but also the stabilization of the terminal part of Vicolo III Colonna through a bulkhead of piles and hydraulic works capable of intercepting and channeling surface runoff water. The total amount of the contract which can be participated in by 31 January 2024 is 240 thousand euros.
