An emergency medical transport of a 66-year-old man, in imminent danger of life, carried out with a Gulfstream G650 aircraft of the 31st Wing of the Air Force, ended in the evening. The patient, hospitalized at the Madonna della Consolazione Polyclinic in Reggio Calabria, needed immediate transfer to the Sant’Orsola Polyclinic in Bologna, an adequate facility for the treatment of the case.
The emergency flight was activated, at the request of the Prefecture of Reggio Calabria, from the Top Situation Room of the Air Force Command – the operations room of the Air Force – which immediately involved the 31st Wing, a department in operational readiness for this type of missions. Once the operational procedures were completed, the aircraft took off from Ciampino airport headed for Reggio Calabria, where the patient was boarded and constantly monitored by a specialized medical team. Subsequently, the aircraft reached Bologna airport, landing after 9pm. From there, the patient was transferred by ambulance to the destination hospital for hospitalization.
