After the damage caused by yesterday’s flood, the mayor of Lipari, Riccardo Gullo asked the president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, to evaluate the declaration of a state of crisis for the island, in order to allow the necessary urgent interventions. Meanwhile, with the improvement in weather conditions, damage reconnaissance operations began this morning and those to restore traffic continue.
The major critical issues concern the provincial roads that connect the center to the hamlets of Canneto, Pianoconte, Quattropani and Acquacalda, as well as the port area of Sottomonastero. Furthermore, mud and debris invaded numerous municipal roads following the flooding of the Ponte, Valle and La Verdesca streams. The situation upstream of the town of Canneto is also critical, where the sedimentation tanks of the Gabellotto stream are completely filled. The flooding also caused damage to private properties, homes and businesses in various streets.
