“Following my question on compliance with the Framework Agreement of March 14, 2022 between the Calabria Region and trade union organizations regarding the situation of the former LSU-LPUs, I received an official response from the regional council that confirms, black on white, what we have denounced for months: the agreement has been disregarded and the promises made to the workers remained a dead letter. The increase in the contractual hours-foreseen by that agreement-the dignity of thousands of workers and workers remains suspended. The M5S group leader in the regional council said it in a note, Davide Tavernise.
“The Region – said Tavernise – had made a precise commitment: to use the resources freed from retirements to strengthen the contracts of those who are still on duty. Those resources, however, were diverted elsewhere. Although the agreement had been signed by President Occhiuto himself, the junta declares its “non -binding” nature today. A political and administrative distance that is equivalent to disavowing a formal act signed in front of workers’ representatives. In addition, the choice to cut over one million euros for 2024 and more than four million for each of the years 2025 and 2026 is in open contradiction with the objectives of the agreement and with common sense. The municipalities, especially the mountain and in financial difficulty, do not do it alone. Without the support of the Region, they cannot guarantee an improvement in contractual conditions or the continuity of essential services “.
According to Tavernise “it is unacceptable that they play on the skin of those who guarantee the functioning of local authorities every day, often with fundamental tasks and growing responsibilities. Workers left in uncertainty, deprived of the right to a future and ignored even in the most elementary requests, such as that of starting forms of intercommunal mobility for a more equitable distribution of human resources. I once again turn to President Occhiuto and his junta: it is time to take on his responsibilities. The former LSU-LPU workers do not ask for favors, they ask for respect. The agreement must be respected. Resources must be restored. The institutions must demonstrate credibility, do not turn their backs to those who represent the backbone of our public services “.
