«Our slogan could be ‘Sea 365’, because we take care of our sea 365 days a year». This was said by the regional councilor for the Environment, Antonio Montuoro, who outlined the balance of the 2026 environmental monitoring in Calabria and illustrated the program for 2027 during an operational meeting in Falerna Marina (Catanzaro) with the bodies and structures for the protection of the territory. «We put over 300 men in the field who – continued Montuoro – monitored our coasts on a daily basis, supported by drones, boats (16,500 km travelled) and Arpacal mobile laboratories. From the territories that in the past reported greater anomalies, this year we are receiving signs of significant improvements.” Montuoro also underlined the data from the Ministry of Health: «97% of Calabrian waters are suitable for bathing and of these 93% have been classified as excellent». According to the regional councilor for the environment, a contribution also came from the “Calabria Ambiente” app, awarded at the RemTech Expo, and from the recovery of almost 17 tons of waste at sea. Attention now shifts to programming for 2027: checks on river channels, mouths and sewerage networks, Montuoro assured, will continue unabated even in the autumn and winter months.
