The prefect of Reggio Calabria, Clara Vaccaro, chaired a meeting this afternoon at the Government Palace with the provincial leaders of the police forces in order to examine the situation linked to the mobilization against high fuel prices. During the meeting, we read in a press release, «certain fuel distributors were identified which will, however, have to guarantee the refueling of emergency vehicles and law enforcement. At the moment, there are no supply problems on the part of the managers of the fuel distribution plants – it is stated in the note – but rather the rapid exhaustion of available stocks due to a surge in supplies today by motorists and, therefore, to an indiscriminate rush for fuel in a large part of the province”.
During the afternoon, again, the prefect received a delegation of kiwi producers from the Gioia Tauro plain, worried by the threats of possible traffic blocks by the demonstrators who had been gathered for days in garrisons. In this regard, the prefect «reiterates that the announced and authorized demonstrations, in compliance with the right to demonstrate, must take place according to the prescriptions issued by the police commissioner. Any resulting inconveniences and slowdowns in road traffic – continues the note from the prefecture – will be monitored with the utmost attention by the police in order to also guarantee the right to movement of vehicles and people and above all the transit of vehicles transporting perishable goods, urgent transport and those connected to essential public services”.
