Singer Mariah Carey lost her mother, Patricia, and sister, Alison, on the same dayjust hours apart. “My heart is broken to have lost my mother over the weekend,” the Grammy-winning singer said. “Sadly, in a tragic turn of events, my sister passed away on the same day.” The American artist, as the Guardian writes, explained that she felt “lucky” to have “been able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed away. I appreciate everyone’s love and support and the respect for my privacy at this impossible time.” Patricia Carey was an opera singer and was previously married to Alfred Roy Carey, the singer’s father. Her parents divorced when Mariah was just three years old.
