«An absolutely meritorious activity that has changed the narrative on our city, no longer remembered as a place held hostage by the Ndrangheta and disbanded by the mafia, but city symbol of the cultural redemption of the whole of Southern Italy».
It didn’t take long to arrive reply from the mayor of Taurianova, Roy Biasito the new ones attacks by the council minority who, following up on the controversies that arose within the city council last Friday, this week returned to talking about water services, administrative methods and cultural policies.
«The repeated attacks – stated the mayor – today more than ever seem to be the result of the unnatural and slanderous fusion of the strategies of the councilors of the Democratic Party and the Brothers of Italy. I have no intention of descending to the level of those who are lending themselves to giving voice and representation to social media haters, but evidently I find myself forced to clarify once and for all that I am not aware of any threats, or reports of threats, of which they would have become the protagonists people close to my council. If the councilors who continue to use this argument are aware of precise and irrefutable facts, they have the duty to report these details first of all to the investigators.”
But the great political crux of this phase evidently lies in the cultural journey of Capital of the Book. The repeated attacks from part of the opposition especially affected councilor Maria Fedele, who is the artistic director of the event. «Those who use the argument of Taurianova Capitale to insinuate, not understanding that this benevolence, this saying that there are other priorities and not culture, determines an involution of consciences, nullifies the efforts made in recent years also by associations, parishes and schools to achieve that dynamism that makes Taurianova a model today. Fortunately, the cultural event does not feel attacked by these insults which hide, behind the excuse of refined cultural tastes, a continuous work of delegitimization.”
