Back and forth in the Chamber between Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Futuro Nazionale deputy Emanuele Pozzolo, during the replies following the general discussion on the Prime Minister’s communications in view of the next European Council.
Meloni vindicated the executive’s action, underlining its consistency with the commitments made to the voters.
«What we are doing to protect the national interest is what was written in our program. A program to implement which you and others were elected from the centre-right ranks”, stated the Prime Minister.
The clash over trust in the Government
In his speech, Meloni then pointed the finger at the parliamentarians of the party led by Roberto Vannacci, recalling the votes cast in the Chamber against the Government.
“Nevertheless, six times you have voted against confidence in this Government, together with Schlein, Conte, Renzi and company”, declared the prime minister, addressing the benches of Futuro Nazionale.
According to Meloni, the vote against confidence represents a clear attempt to distrust the executive.
“Voting against confidence in the Government means voting to send that Government home,” he added.
«The true right does not help the left»
The Prime Minister then concluded her speech with a political jab aimed at former allies.
“I think that doing what the left needs is never defending the national interest, so please don’t talk to me about the real right, because the real right is never functional to the left,” said Meloni.
Words that further ignited the political debate in the Montecitorio Chamber on the eve of the European Council and in a particularly delicate phase of the debate between the majority and the opposition.
