At least eight people were killed in an Israeli air raid on a popular residential area in Tyre, the Southern Lebanon Civil Defense told Al Jazeera Arabic. The attack came shortly after the Israeli army issued evacuation orders for the city. Civil protection workers are evacuating elderly people while residents are fleeing, the National News Agency reported. The displacement order included the city’s previously excluded Christian neighborhood, but the Israeli military said Hezbollah fighters operate in that area.
Lebanon’s civil protection agency also says, according to Al Jazeera, that three people were injured, including two rescuers, in an Israeli attack on the southern Lebanese town of Sharqiyeh. Teams were trying to extract and administer first aid to an injured person, but their operators were hit by a second drone attack, which left two staff members with minor injuries. The injured were taken to hospital and the emergency service said it would continue to “carry out its humanitarian and relief duties and respond to emergency calls, despite the difficult conditions and challenges on the ground.”
