«Italy condemns the Israeli decision to authorize new settlements in the West Bank. This decision is contrary to international law and risks definitively compromising the solution of the two states and, in general, a political perspective to reach a just and lasting peace “. This was stated by Premier Giorgia Meloni in a declaration.
“Italy follows with deep concern the recent developments relating to the decisions taken by the Israeli government regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip and in West Bank and firmly reaffirms its commitment to peace, security and respect for international law” adds Meloni. “In particular, the decision to proceed with the occupation of Gaza, in response to the inhuman terrorist attack of Hamas of 7 October 2023, constitutes a further military escalation which can only aggravate the already dramatic humanitarian situation”.
In Gaza a collective commitment is necessary to reach a ceasefire and the release of the hostages, strengthening the international effort to ensure humanitarian assistance which is urgently necessary for the civilian population of the Strip. Italy will continue to support the efforts of the mediators in this direction and is ready to do its part in a post-conflict scenario », adds the premier.
