As part of the National Reading Campaign “May of Books 2024”, today the first “Night of Books and Libraries” will take placean initiative of the mayor's administration Federico Basile dedicated to reading and learning about book places (bookstores and libraries).
Institutional and cultural partners of the evening, in addition to the Municipality of Messina and the “Tommaso Cannizzaro” municipal library, are the Superintendency of Messina, the “Giacomo Longo” regional library, the Library of the Capuchin Friars Minor and other private libraries.
The Cannizzaro municipal library, at the Palacultura Antonello, will be open from 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm with the following appointments: from 6.30pm to 7.30pm Children's section, on the second floor, music workshop organized by the Wind of Change association (for children aged 8 to 12 – by reservation at the Library); from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, in the G. Molonia room, on the first floor, reading meeting organized by the Terremoti di Carta association; from 7pm to 8.30pm, at the GAMM, on the first floor, Awareness and responsibility, fantastic visions in artistic representations, from the urban fantasy novel “Riot” by Alessandro Carrozza, with works by Magda De Benedetto, Sam Levi, Valentina Marra and Kiaxeven; from 8.30pm to 10.30pm, in the Reading room, on the first floor, Game Night: board games in the reading room! During the evening the video will be screened on the SBR Messina portal by the Superintendency of Messina. The Book Exchange is also active.
“The event is part of the objectives of the municipal administration to promote the cultural areas of the city, of which bookshops and libraries are the primary subject”, explained the councilor for cultural policies Enzo Caruso. The program of the first “Night of Books and Libraries”, which involves citizens of various age groups to immerse themselves in the places of books, exploring the treasures of Messina's libraries, consists of the presentation of books, readings aloud, musical workshops , exhibitions of rare materials, literary aperitifs and other activities.
