Messina, “Christmas in the suburbs”: a market set up in the parish of Santa Maria di Gesù a Ritiro

By John

It will kick off this evening at 7pm, with the inauguration of the Christmas market in the parish of Santa Maria di Gesù a Ritiro organized by the “San Giuseppe” group, the second edition of “Christmas together in the suburbs”, the program of Christmas events promoted by Cisl Messina, with the patronage of the Municipality of Messina and the fifth Municipality presided over by Raffaele Verso, in synergy with the parish of S. Maria di Gesù di Ritiro and the Giovanni 23mo Italian Sports Center. Nine events – from today until January 7th – which will involve the Retiro community and all those, including citizens, who wish to experience a space of proximity in the name of culture, spirituality and sport. A synergy that “continues to bear fruit” declared the general secretary of the CISL Nino Alibrandi which after the great success of last year, reiterated the desire to strengthen the inter-institutional network by involving more and more associations and traders. A proximity initiative capable of canceling the topographical boundaries between center and periphery, in the name of the great spirit of aggregation that characterizes all the initiatives: among the places that will host the events, the Giovanni 23mo sports center is the one that more than the others symbolizes the rebirth of a neighborhood that often has to deal with various social problems, reiterated the president of the structure Santino Smedile. In this multi-voiced dialogue, an important role is played by the parish led by Don Roberto Romeo, promoter of a spiritual rebirth of the community, especially of children and young people who, he said “want to feel an active part in the path of social and cultural redemption”. On the 20th at 6pm, a tombola will be held in the parish for disabled children, accompanied by Accir volunteers, while on Friday the 22nd at 9pm, young high school and university students will meet in the parish auditorium “Martiri Copti” for the “Disco ”. On Thursday 28 December, the event “A Christmas Celebration Retreat” returns to the sports center for the second year – with games, music and entertainment for adults and children – and on Friday 29 at 7pm there will be a concert in the S. Maria di Gesù church for piano and violin by the duo Simona Vita and Viola Adamova. Grand finale on January 6th at 11am with the traditional appointment with The Befana stocking at John the 23rd, while on the 7th at 7pm the awards ceremony for the “The most beautiful nativity scene” competition will be held in the parish with the drawing and awarding of prizes .
