The entire new Via Don Blasco will be completed in the first months of 2027, and not next October 31st: the artery designed since 1996, which became a construction site at the end of 2018, and which has been used for almost all of its route for some time now but which is still closed, with all that follows, from its inception starting from the San Raineri bridge, or from the port’s Falcata area. Ponte San Raineri which, as can be seen, is still in the midst of its reconstruction.
The main reasons for the current delay, now crystallized with no further risk – it seems – of further postponements, lie in the difficulties encountered by the first machine used for the deep driving of piles and micropiles, 66 in total. The second, subsequently ordered and used by the company, made it possible to achieve the set objective. Now, in the next few days, the foundation casting of the “Messina side” abutment of the new bridge will be carried out, the one that will support the shorter span of the same (just 10 meters long). This operation will be followed by the casting of the foundation of the relevant pillar and subsequently, between December and January, we will move on to the foundation block of the “Catania side” abutment which will support the longest span, approximately 40 metres, of the new bridge. The subsequent steps also seem to be able to be completed easily towards the finish line, barring unlikely unforeseen events or the incidence of meteorological events. Again as regards the deck, the same order will be followed for the two phases of casting the slab over the prefabricated steel beams: first on the north side span and then on the south side.
