Federico Basile was officially proclaimed mayor of the City of Messina. The ceremony took place this afternoon, in the council chamber of Palazzo Zanca, at the end of the verification of the votes of the administrative elections of 24 and 25 May 2026, by the Central Electoral Office chaired by the magistrate Giuseppe D’Agostino of the Court of Messina.
“Just two very short words – said Basile, visibly moved – Maybe it showed: I told someone that I would be moved by this election. Even if it’s not my habit, I was moved not so much by the result of the 64,000 votes, but by the applause and warmth that you gave me today too. This second experience will be even more intense than the first. As I said on the evening of the election, I received so much affection that I intend to reciprocate with just as much love.”
“This must be phase three – continued the mayor – in which it will be necessary to apply an even stronger strategy to make the city increasingly attractive, capable of offering opportunities to
young people and to continue the growth path started”.
The passing of the tricolor band
Present at the proclamation were the Extraordinary Commissioner Piero Mattei, the Deputy Commissioner Bernardo Campo and the General Secretary of the Municipality of Messina Rossana Carrubba. During the ceremony the traditional passing of the tricolor sash took place.
