Moments of fear in today’s morning in the waters in front of Acqualadroni in Messina, where a French dioporter, aboard a sailboat of about eight meters, launched a “May-day” call to the Port Authority.

According to what was reconstructed, the unfortunate could no longer govern the boat due to the sudden worsening of the conditions of the sea and the wind. The unit, out of control, ended up against the Frangifutti barrier, bringing a flaw back and starting to embark water.

The operating room of the Coast Guard of Messina ordered the immediate sending of the CP 852 patrol boat and alerted the 118 health emergency service. In the meantime, the man, who was alone on board, was rescued by two boaters in the area, who reached him before the arrival of the rescue.

Once disconnected from the waves, the sailboat placed himself on the seabed, while the aillers was entrusted to the health workers and transported to the hospital for investigations.

The Port Authority of Messina has started the checks to reconstruct the causes of the accident and is monitoring the area to exclude risks of pollution and evaluate the methods of recovering the boat.
