The new MRI of the “G. Martino” AOU of Messina was inaugurated today, installed on the ground floor of Pavilion F and purchased with PNRR funds (Mission 6 Component 2 Investment 1.1.2 “Modernization of the hospital technological and digital park – Large equipment).

An instrumentation intended for the clinical and research activity of the Departmental Simple Operational Unit (UOSD) of Oncological Radiology, directed by Prof. Giorgio Ascenti, belonging to the Department of Diagnostic Imaging directed by Prof. Alfredo Blandino.

This 1.5 tesla MRI, equipped with the latest generation artificial intelligence technologies, allows you to further improve image quality and optimize acquisition times, offering significant advantages for both patients and operators. Thanks to the power of the magnetic field, the high intensity gradients and the new multi-channel digital coils, the machine guarantees very high level diagnostic performance, a notable reduction in exam execution times and greater comfort for patients, as well as making workflows more efficient.

The equipment adds to the two already operational in Pavilion E, expanding the technological equipment of the Radiology Department and further enhancing the diagnostic capabilities of the University Hospital.

In particular, the new platform will allow the development of abdominal-pelvic, neck and breast imaging studies with greater accuracy, as well as advanced applications such as prostate imaging and MR-enterography, consolidating the vocation of excellence of the “G. Martino” Polyclinic in the field of diagnostic imaging and radiological research.

“A hospital equipped with the most modern instruments – said the Rector Prof. Giovanna Spatari – is certainly even more attractive for our students and postgraduates. I am sure that for the numerous professionals present in the field of diagnostics this additional equipment will be a concrete support, extremely important for teaching and research activities”.

“Another step – said the General Director of the AOU G. Martino Giorgio Giulio Santonocito – in the context of a path that we have started since I took office aimed at technological enhancement and updating on several fronts and in particular for the diagnostics area. I thank Prof. Alfredo Blandino, Giorgio Ascenti and Sergio Vinci for their active collaboration also for the acquisition of the new 3 tesla resonance and for the updating of the other machine, both present in Pavilion E. Our objective has always been to create the conditions to offer citizens accurate and extremely precise diagnoses. I am sure that the team of the Diagnostic Imaging Department will be able to capitalize on this investment for the benefit of the numerous patients who come to our hospital every day”.
