Dangers and inconveniences along the Mella bridge bypass in San Saba, due to the frequent transit of heavy vehicles not permitted for those with a load exceeding 3.5 tons. Another episode occurred yesterday morning. An articulated lorry was stuck on the temporary slip road which connects the alternate one-way section of State Road 113 which was interrupted to allow for safety works on the Mella Bridge.
The episode caused repercussions on road traffic which had already slowed down due to the reduced traffic. Only after long and complicated maneuvers did the truck driver manage to cross the bypass.
«The passage of trucks is not admissible – states the former councilor of the Sixth district Mario Biancuzzo, who often acts as spokesperson for the requests and complaints of residents in San Saba and in the other villages of the Tyrrhenian coast – in the only possible connection route both for traffic reasons but also for the damage caused to the road. Controls are needed to prevent this situation which occurs frequently. It is the only artery we have to avoid being isolated.”
The bypass was opened a few months ago to allow for safety works on the Mella bridge and traffic is regulated by traffic lights as it travels on only one lane.
«I will write to the relevant bodies – concludes Biancuzzo – to report this situation, urging the necessary checks, considering that not everyone respects the ban and that there are safety reasons that come before anything else».
