The “Fertility” project, promoted by the Municipality of Messina and Messina Social City, continuing to the path started in 2018 with the breakdown and “new paths of living”, presented at the Flag of the flags of Palazzo Zanca. The mayor Federico Basile has announced a two -month extension of the current activities, followed by the start of the new program, with work inclusion courses and the Social Innovation Lab. Over 2,500 people and families taken in charge so far. Investment of almost 30 million euros and 530 expected social inclusion bags. Also present were the councilor Alessandra Calafiore, the president of Messina Social City Valeria Asquini and the former mayor Cateno De Luca, today the first citizen of Taormina.

The Mayor Basile At the opening of the meeting, he kept to emphasize that: “The project Fertility It marks the beginning of a new phase and represents a change of pace in our commitment to citizens coming from the areas to be restored. After offering the opportunity to carry out training internships, today we open a more solid and lasting perspective, aiming at stable insertion in the world of work. This is not an extension of the program paths of living, nor simple renewals of internships, but of an important moment of shared construction to go on together. We look not at what others can do, but to what we do, with responsibility and determination. Nothing is obvious and nothing is due, but together we can be winning. For this, on August 31, current internships will end, in a physiological passage that will allow us to start this new phase. We have foreseen 30 million euros to allow the 519 beneficiaries to take a stable and qualifying path. Today we consolidate and enrich the vision started in recent years, strengthening city welfare policies and promoting an inclusive and participatory development model “.

“With fertility – said the Asquini President of Messina Social City – We will work to build a welfare that does not limit itself to responding to needs, but which offers new opportunities for growth and inclusion. Social inclusion bags and social innovation lab are two different but closely connected tools: the former guarantees concrete paths to strengthen skills and autonomy, the latter creates a community space in which institutions, citizens and entities can meet and design shared solutions together. Fertility represents a concrete step towards a community welfare, where inclusion and social innovation become levers to strengthen ties and generate new opportunities. For the administration and the company it is a source of great satisfaction having conceived a path aimed at the recipients, with the aim of making them feel an integral part of the city, starting with social inclusion bags, continuing with internships, up to the final stage of the stable employment “.

For Calafiore councilor: “The path built in recent years has had the aim of having a concrete impact on our territory. When working with people, however, the process is increasingly complex and varied, since each individual has different characteristics and needs, as has been traveled to live. Today we can finally collect the seeds planted over time, which will also produce wealth for future generations. The real impact will be measured in the long term, both in the growth of the city and in the personal development of the people involved. of social policies, which aim to overcome stigma and prejudices, such as those lived by individuals forced to live in shacks.

“A really exciting moment for me” – said the honorable De Luca – “And for all of us, because it represents the achievement of a fundamental objective: to concretely improve our society. This has been and continues to be my political-administrative vision, that of finally breaking those solles forgotten by everyone, such as the shacks, on which no one had ever wanted to intervene seriously. Today we are here to collect the results of an extraordinary action, the result of a constant commitment and a forward-looking strategy, which led to the destination of 30 million euros not only because envisaged by specific funding, but because we have chosen to optimize the resources available to face the priorities and social emergencies of our territory decision.

De Luca then added: “For the beneficiaries of the fertility project, a new phase now opens up, a radically different phase, in which there is no more space for simple tolerance, but for individual and collective responsibility. It is no longer about internships or temporary moments: a new status comes into play, which imposes obligations and duties from real workers. This is because we are called to enhance human resources and not to create social backpacks. Awareness and this commitment we can lead the city of Messina to transform a weakness point into a strong point, thus building a better and more inclusive future for everyone “.
