It will take no less than years before we can hear the bell ring again at Cannizzaro Galatti. One of the most central and popular school buildings in the city will begin the process of giving it a second life this year. Putting it back in safe conditions is an important economic commitment almost like building a school from scratch, but it is a commitment that could not fail to be honoured.
In the past few days the task was entrusted for the first design of one of the two sections of the 10 million euro works that the Municipality has planned. But the first important step towards reopening should be at the end of the month. Most of the students were transferred from September 2023 to Cristo Re and to the Viale Principe Umberto institute, where the Municipality pays the rent, but it is clear that this can only be a transitory condition.
There are two excerpts of the entire safety measures for this large L-shaped building which this year reaches its century of history (it was the engineer Galbo who built it in 1925). The first concerns the wing of the “ ”Galatti”, the closest to the court. Its safety measures are worth 2,165,000 to which all the costs associated with a public contract must be added. It is one of the short sides of the “L” and the estimated duration of the construction site is two years.
