The remediation works on Fondo Basile were delivered this morning to the Cericola company, which were necessary for the removal of pollutants found in the soil and subsoil. Present at the delivery of the works were the sub commissioner for the rehabilitation of the Messina slums Marcello Scurria, the architect Grazia Marullo coordinator of the technical sector of the commissioner’s office, the director of the works engineer Gaetano Saitta and the surveyor Giacomo Amico (rup Civil Engineering).
The environmental investigations in the soil and subsoil started in 2022 and the subsequent sampling analyzes revealed the presence of polluting substances both in the soil and in the groundwater in excess of the threshold established for green and residential areas. The remediation interventions will allow the elimination and then proceed, once the operation is completed, with the construction of 60 housing units.
With the delivery of the works this morning, the number of construction sites started in Messina during the year rises to 7, as the sub-commissioner for rehabilitation Marcello Scurria comments with satisfaction: “2024 was a mirabilis year. There are already seven construction sites underway and nearing completion in different parts of the city from north to south. Between reclamation works, demolitions, clearances and redevelopments, by the end of the year we will have 12 construction sites at the same time and this is a source of maximum satisfaction for us. The recovery office is busy morning and evening giving its all to achieve results. All this is an effect of the 2021 law and particular thanks go to the Undersecretary for Relations with Parliament Matilde Siracusano”.
Siracusano: “Concrete answers for the territory and for many people from Messina abandoned for decades”
“The reclamation and rehabilitation works of large degraded or polluted areas of the city continue throughout Messina.
Many construction sites, 7 started in 2024 and will become 12 by the end of the yearnew homes purchased or built, shacks finally demolished, interventions to redevelop entire neighborhoods.
All initiatives possible thanks to the law on rehabilitation and against slums, approved in Parliament thanks to the constant commitment of Forza Italia, which in 2021 allocated 100 million euros to achieve important objectives.
Today another piece of this complex puzzle. In the morning they were delivered to the Cericola company the remediation works of Fondo Basile, made necessary for the removal of polluting substances found in the soil and subsoil.
The reclamation interventions will allow its elimination and then proceed, once the operation is completed, with the construction of 60 housing units.
“Concrete answers for the territory and for many people from Messina who have been abandoned for decades and to whom the dignity of citizens is finally being restored. I thank the commissioner for the rehabilitation of the slums of Messina, the president Renato Schifani, and the sub commissioner, Marcello Scurria”. As Matilde Siracusano, Undersecretary for Relations with Parliament and member of Forza Italia from Messina.
