Following the report of the regional civil protection and the declaration of the regional state of emergency by the Schifani Government, and the subsequent appointment of the commissioner for emergency management, Duilio Alongi, the first interventions began in theisland of Stromboli and in the hamlet of Ginostra affected by the flood of 19 October.
The works were entrusted to the company Fra.E.Ma Srl and the amount amounts to approximately 150 thousand euros. The interventions underway in Stromboli have been entrusted to the Scaffidi company for an amount of 77 thousand euros. The completion of the works, entrusted by the Civil Engineers of Messina, is expected by the end of the month.
The workers have landed in Ginostra and are clearing away the debris and mud that have invaded the streets and paths of the village. Interventions are underway to rearrange and put the ancient Pertuso port back into operation. Subsequently, we will intervene on the paths. The number one objective is to fully restore traffic.
Meanwhile, in the next few days, some should also begin extremely urgent works in some streams on behalf of the Basin Authority financed for approximately 90 thousand euros.

Considerable financial resources and major interventions will be needed to avoid further devastation caused by the rains and only through constant dialogue between the various bodies will a solution be found. We hope to have positive news soon – concludes Giuffrè – about the future of Ginostra and in the meantime we thank the regional commissioner Duilio Alongi and all those who have worked to restore hope to our community”.
Schifani: «Committed to bringing back normality»
«We maintain the commitment we made to bring the areas most affected by the October floods back to a normal situation. We also wanted to intervene immediately in Stromboli and Ginostra to eliminate the most dangerous situations and restore serenity to the citizens. Therefore, I can only positively note that the work continued today and yesterday, the November 1st holiday.” This was declared by the president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, speaking on the start of urgent interventions on the island of Stromboli and in the hamlet of Ginostra, ordered by the council with the declaration of the regional state of emergency.
There are a total of five interventions that were arranged by the council with the declaration of the regional state of emergency and for which 2.8 million euros were allocated. In addition to Stromboli and Ginostra, also at the mouth of the Salso river, in Licata, in the Agrigento area; on the Dittaino river and in Enna. Coordination was entrusted, as extraordinary commissioner for the emergency, to the general manager of the technical department of the regional infrastructure department, Duilio Alongi.
