Only since yesterday has there been certainty: the temporary construction site interchanges on the A18, for the construction of the railway doubling works, will be built. But there will be 3 and not 4, as was thought. The Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, in concert with the regional department of cultural heritage and Sicilian identity, signed with the last signature yesterday morning the environmental compatibility decree for the motorway ramps of Taormina, Sant’Alessio Siculo and Nizza di Sicilia, while a negative opinion was expressed on the environmental compatibility for the construction site connection planned in Itala.
A green light, signed by the director of environmental assessments arch. Gianluigi Nocco and the general manager of the Department of Cultural Heritage and Sicilian Identity Mario La Rocca, valid for ten years, which closes the environmental impact assessment procedure started on 13 December 2024 by the Italian Railway Network to the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security, aimed at obtaining the opinion deemed necessary to evaluate the impacts of the connection works with the Messina-Catania motorway. Works intended only for the transit of construction site vehicles involved in the construction of the new Giampilieri-Fiumefreddo railway line, with the aim of minimizing the use of the local road network, essentially represented by the Statale 114 and the seafronts which, every day, are crossed by hundreds of trucks.
