“We insist and we do not give up”: this could be the motto of the thirteenth edition of the “Cortile Teatro Festival”the contemporary drama festival directed by Roberto Zorn Bonaventurewith a program of five shows, which will start on July 22nd and will continue until August 13th. Two big names such as Michele Sinisi and Gaspare Balsamobut all new shows from important companies. «It was not easy – says Bonaventura – to launch this edition after knowing only a few days before the start that the traditional venue for our shows, the courtyard of the eighteenth-century Palazzo Calapaj-D’Alcontres, was no longer available. We had to give up something, but with the help and solidarity of many, starting with Commonthis year as co-organizer, and continuing with the Horcynus Orca Foundation and the Rasocolmo Estatewe have managed to launch a program that we can once again be proud of, with shows
. A program that, in a certain sense, also respects the subtitle we have chosen for 2024, that is “Io se fossi Dio”, the forbidden song by Giorgio Gaber, an artist who for us is a symbol of freedom of art».
It will begin with the show “Mutu cu sapi u jocu” by Giuseppe Provinzano, presented by the Palermo company Babel, for which (starting at 9 pm) the Courtyard of the Palazzo della Città Metropolitana di Messina, in Corso Cavour, will be used for the first time. In this regard, what is written in a note from the Municipality is significant: «“Cortile Teatro Festival”, the event that this year reached its 13th edition, was sponsored and co-organized with pleasure by this Administration, as it combines various elements that revolve around a “Quality and innovative theatre, with an immediate, direct and accessible impact together with knowledge of the places, performance locations – highlight the mayor Federico Basile and the councilor for major events Massimo Finocchiaro –. A formula, in line with the will of this Administration that is very happy to support initiatives promoted by local cultural entities that aim to involve citizens to offer moments of exchange, knowledge and entertainment in spaces that represent architectural beauties of Messina called ‘courtyards’, often unknown or not visitable. An event of the city for the city created with the ideas and contributions of those who love art and culture».
