On Sunday 20 July 2025 the “Giuseppe Cucco” draga arrived at the port of Tremestieri, which left last Thursday from the port of Chioggia. After a long journey along the Adriatic and the bass Tyrrhenian Sea, the ship reached Messina in the evening, as expected, and is ready to start the dredging operations.
The intervention, made official by an order from the Port Authority, begins today on Monday 21 July and provides for the removal of the sand that has covered one of the slides, making it unusable since last March 26 due to the strong storms and the wind. The goal is the restoration of the full operation of the airport.
The company CTF srl of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, in charge of the intervention, has obtained all the necessary authorizations and has already prepared a time schedule of the works that takes into account any delays or unexpected. The completion of the operations is scheduled for Saturday 26 July.
The arrival of the draga represents a fundamental step for the return to normal to the port of Tremestieri, a crucial infrastructure for the maritime roads of the Strait of Messina.
