Messina closes the regular season by narrowly beating Milazzo (1-0), avoids the play-off against Sancataldese (KO against newly promoted Saovia) and secures the play-out. At the “Franco Scoglio” the challenge heats up in the 10th minute, when from Toure’s cross, Maisano’s header is blocked by Quartarone, while in the 20th minute Matese shoots out diagonally again. It is the Giallorossi, forced by the rankings, to play the match against the Mamertines who, however, do not stand by and watch, but do not create real dangers in the Giardino area. Quartarone, however, denies Matese the lead twice again, while in the 46th minute La Spada has the visitors’ best chance, but heads it high.
In the second half the turning point came in the 54th minute, when Toure received the ball and, inside the area, found the winning shot to put Messina ahead. The fundamental 1-0 allows the locals to slow down the pace and manage the advantage, while Milazzo tries, but without real conclusions. At the final whistle the verdict: Messina are in the play-out from fifteenth (level on points with Acireale, but ahead in head-to-head matches) and salvation will be played out on the Ragusa pitch. With only one result available.
