The awarding of the works for the arrangement of the “O” and “P” ramps of Giostra-Annunziata represents a significant step for Messina and the arrival point of a political and institutional path started by the municipal administration to return to the city a strategic infrastructure that had remained unfinished for years.

«This goal arises from a precise choice: putting the real needs of the city at the center of administrative action and working with determination to identify concrete solutions – declares the mayor Federico Basile. It is a path started in recent years and continued continuously by the municipal administration, identifying some strategic priorities for Messina, including the improvement of traffic and the recovery of the “O” and “P” ramps, a work that has been overdue for too long and is fundamental for the city’s mobility system”.

The financing obtained from the Government

«In 2023, during the meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure Matteo Salvini, I brought the main needs of our city to the Government’s attention, asking for a concrete commitment to interventions capable of truly impacting the future of Messina. Among these were the strengthening of the water network, the strengthening of the road system and, in particular, the completion of the “O” and “P” ramps of Giostra-Annunziata”.

«That institutional discussion produced a fundamental first step: ministerial funding of around 5 million euros, which made it possible to start the technical-administrative path necessary for the implementation of the intervention. A passage that demonstrates how the ability to represent the needs of the territory and to build solid institutional relationships can translate into works expected by citizens.”

Now executive planning and construction site

«Subsequently the Interregional Board of Public Works continued the tender procedure until the works were awarded. The executive planning and construction phase now begins: a step that brings Messina closer to the conclusion of a story that has remained stagnant for too long.”

«Institutional collaboration brings results»

«I have always believed that the role of a mayor is to dialogue with all the institutions, without preclusions and without conditioning linked to political affiliations. When the interest of a community is at stake, institutional collaboration must prevail over any other logic. This is the method we followed and which allowed us to obtain important resources and unlock interventions expected by the city.”

«This affair demonstrates the value of good politics: a politics capable of listening to the needs of the territory, identifying priorities, building shared paths and transforming commitments into concrete works. Beyond divisions and affiliations, when institutions work together with responsibility and vision, it is the citizens who benefit.”

The mayor’s final words

«The awarding of the works for the “O” and “P” ramps confirms that a policy based on planning, responsibility and the ability to communicate brings concrete results. This is our commitment: transforming Messina’s needs into realized works, working every day for a more modern, more functional city and closer to the needs of citizens”, concludes Mayor Federico Basile.
