Michele Tommasi today assumed the role of Ambassador of Italy in Dakar. This was announced by the Farnesina. Born in Cosenza on 6 July 1965, he graduated in Law from the Luiss University of Rome in 1990. Following a competitive exam, he entered the diplomatic career on 23 September 1996. After an initial assignment at the General Directorate of Personnel and Administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, since 1999 he has been First Commercial Secretary in Rabat. Since 2003 he has been Consul in Izmir. In 2007 he returned to Rome where he served in the General Directorate for the Mediterranean Countries and the Middle East and then in the General Directorate for the European Countries of the Farnesina. In 2010 he was in New York as First Counselor at the Permanent Mission to the United Nations. Since 2014 he has been Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy in Moscow. In 2018 he returned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he served in the Analysis, Programming, Statistics and Documentation Unit of the General Secretariat, and then in the General Directorate for Political and Security Affairs. In 2022 he is Ambassador to Khartoum. He has been appointed Ambassador of Italy to the Republic of Senegal since 2026. Since 2006 he has been a Knight of the Order of Merit of the Republic.
