Among the inmates searched today as part of the Genoa Dia investigation into the use of cell phones in prison by mafiosi, there is also Ottavio Spada, 36 years old, linked to the Spada clan of Ostia (Rome). The man was arrested in 2018 following an investigation by the Rome DDA which had dismantled the organisation. According to investigators, he used microcell phones to communicate with relatives. The investigation began in 2021, after investigators realized that a person they were investigating was talking to an inmate. Among those under investigation are people believed to be close to the Morabito gang of Africo, Grande Aracri of Cutro and Molè of Gioia Tauro. The handsets were brought by relatives during the interviews. Investigators found cell phones in only 2 of the 12 prisoners searched.
