Iran will respond “fire with fire” and will also resist the new secondary sanctions imposed by Donald Trump’s administration. This was assured by the Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, in his speech at the 40th international conference of Islamic Unity, in Tehran.
Araghchi recalled the first intervention by the US and Israel, in June last year which had the intention of “undermining the unity of the Iranian people”. The attack failed and “they began to plot to create divisions within the country, sent armed groups and tried to undermine the legitimacy of the Islamic Republic by creating insecurity and causing casualties,” he explained. But again the regime resisted. And hence the new war.
Again, despite the killing of Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, “this tree was not damaged” and “attempts to silence Iran’s missile fire were also unsuccessful.” In the end, he insisted, “they had no choice but to negotiate.”
Iran, he assured, “does not joke about its security and our fighters will respond to any attack.” Even in the form of sanctions. “Just as we resisted US sanctions during the Obama era, we will also resist the new ones” from Trump, he clarified.
