The middle school janitor definitively sentenced to three years and four months for having abused a 15-year-old former pupil in Genoa was arrested in Crotone, where he was under house arrest. The man will have to spend at least one year in prison, the minimum observation period before he can then ask to serve the remaining sentence under house arrest. A week ago the Supreme Court confirmed the conviction but there was doubt about the arrest. The crime for which he was convicted is “obstructive”, but the “minor seriousness of the fact” was recognised.

The facts date back to 2023. The boy had gone to visit his grandfather who lives in the same condominium as the school operator. Before returning home he knocked on the janitor’s door to greet him as his parents themselves had suggested he do after the operator had helped him at school. Once he arrived at the house, however, after some pleasantries, the man (defended by the lawyer Matteo Carpi) began to molest him and the minor rejected the advances. The abuse continued at the entrance and when the boy tried to leave the man molested him and held him by the arm. At that point the boy tried to run away but the man stood in front of the door preventing him from leaving. The minor then kicked him and managed to escape. When he reached the street, he called his mother. After hearing what had happened, the mother had notified the lawyer Ilaria Tulino and together with the lawyer and her son she had gone to report.
