The sentence of Mimmo Lucano to 18 months imprisonment, with suspended sentence, for a false penalty relating to one of the 57 resolutions that had been charged by the accusation in an investigation on the management of the reception of migrants in Riace, becomes definitive. This was decided by the Cassation which rejected the appeal of its lawyers. The Supreme Court then declared the appeal of the General Prosecutor of Reggio Calabria inadmissible for the acquittal of Lucano and the other defendants for crimes of fraud against the state. Also rejected the appeal regarding the acquittals for the other scams and of false contested only to Lucano.
In October 2023 the Court of Appeal Reggina had reduced the sentence that had been inflicted at first instance by the Court of Locri in Lucano for 13 years and 2 months to imprisonment, for the alleged illicit in the management of the Reception of migrants in Riace. At first instance, in fact, the judges had considered him the promoter of a criminal association. In the second degree process, the main accusations contested in Lucano had fallen. He had only held up a false accusation. Lucano had, in fact, acquitted of all the other crimes. And that acquittal, today, is definitive, as well as the sentence for false.
Lucano: “Theorem against me to hinder the reception”

This was said by the MEP and mayor of Riace Mimmo Lucano commenting on the sentence with which the Cassation made the sentence of the Court of Appeal of Reggio Calabria definitively which, in October 2023, acquitted it from all the crimes disputed him, for who at first instance had been imposed on him 13 years and 2 months in prison, with the exception of a single fake episode for which he was sentenced to 18 months. “Instead of considering the reception – added Lucano – an invasion, as has been represented in all these years, by a criminal literature with the aim of passing messages such as those who justify deportations, the kidnappings, the Libyan and Albanian lagers, Riace has shown that it can be welcomed with sweetness.
