«The topic that the Hon. Rossano Sasso poses to us «is of great interest: we want to be clear, we all have before our eyes the very ugly images of 23 May 2024 when during the occupation of the great hall in Turin the imam prayed in the university with a fence that divided the men from the women, hidden by the barrier. Universities are secular places to the point that on that occasion, with a complaint, we prevented the same prayer from taking place inside the Polytechnic. Since then the ministry, the prefecture and the police headquarters have repeatedly ensured that this does not happen. For the specific case of the question I have informed myself and I can assure you that it is not a mosque, there is no imam, it is a place rented on loan for use by the Polyclinic hospital to patients, workers, health workers of the Muslim religion in order to gather in prayer. We believe it is appropriate to continue to monitor together but the university is not a place where prayers and/or proselytism can take place.” Thus the University Minister Anna Maria Bernini, responding in question time to the Hon. Rossano Sasso (Lega) in relation to the issue of the concession of spaces for Islamic worship at the University of Catanzaro. “It remains a worrying message, this opening is inconceivable”, replied MP Sasso in turn.
