A large fire broke out this afternoon in the Paradiso district in the municipality of Monforte San Giorgio. Forestry men from the Rometta detachment intervened on site, led by team leader Pietro Scattarreggia, who carried out the fire extinguishing and site reclamation operations. The Vap Civil Protection of Monforte also assisted the work. An inspection was also carried out by the municipal councilor Franco Guido, who ascertained possible dangerous situations. A significant portion of Mediterranean scrub as well as centuries-old trees were up in smoke. The causes that led to the fire are not currently known. What is certain is that today’s high temperatures fueled the flames, fortunately limited by the intervention of the fire extinguishers.
