The good weather in Calabria seen today is numbered. After a day characterized by mild temperatures and almost spring-like conditions, from the evening onwards the region is preparing to deal with a new phase of bad weather. A cyclone called “Pedro” is in fact arriving in the region and will bring widespread rain, thunderstorms and a significant reinforcement of ventilation. In the upper Tyrrhenian Cosentino the regional civil protection has issued the orange alert bulletin, while in the rest of the region the alert is yellow.
The heaviest rainfall is expected along the Tyrrhenian side and in the internal areas, with particular attention to the Cosentino, Lametino and Vibonese areas, where accumulations exceeding 100 millimeters may be recorded locally between today’s evening and the whole day tomorrow. Showers and thunderstorms will also affect part of the Ionian side, especially in the Catanzaro area, where the rain may be intense at times.
Still strong winds on the Tyrrhenian Sea and inland areas
The passage of the disturbed system will also be accompanied by a new increase in winds. Gusts of up to 70-80 kilometers per hour are expected from the next few hours and more markedly in tomorrow morning across most of the Tyrrhenian and inland areas, with possible even higher peaks along the Ionian side of Catanzaro, exposed to falling wind phenomena.
According to forecasts, Pedro should represent the last disturbance of a long unstable period that has affected Calabria for over a month. In fact, the return of high pressure is expected starting from the weekend, with more stable and sunny conditions expected to continue for at least a good part of next week.
