«We take note of the availability of the Hon. Cannizzaro’s candidacy for mayor of Reggio Calabria, an added value for his role as a parliamentarian, who has been able to demonstrate – with concrete actions and many investments in the city of Reggio – that he is a point of cohesion, and also a catalyst for much consensus”.

This was said by the Undersecretary of the Interior, Wanda Ferro (FdI), meeting journalists on the sidelines of the signing of the protocol for the management of companies confiscated from the ‘ndrangheta, regarding the Forza Italia parliamentarian’s willingness to run as mayor of the city for the centre-right. «Obviously – added Ferro – the strength of the centre-right has always been that of knowing how to unite, not so much as an electoral cartel, but of following a common path on programmes. Brothers of Italy, should he confirm his availability, he will be there. Otherwise we will sit around a table to evaluate the proposal that will be able to catalyze the majority of the consensus of the center-right and the voters. Fratelli d’Italia at the moment – underlined the exponent of Fratelli d’Italia – has no proposals because we believe that the proposals will have to emerge following a possible resignation of Cannizzaro. However, I want to remind you that not only the municipal administration of Reggio Calabria will be renewed, but also the municipality of Crotone and, therefore, the discussion will have to take into account a regional framework which will also have to evaluate the proposals that will be put forward in the city of Crotone”.

«I have no news» «I am not aware of the return of former administrators, because I don’t live in the city on a daily basis» replied Ferro regarding a possible candidacy of the former governor Giuseppe Scopelliti. “I haven’t received this news.”

On the primaries, however, Wanda Ferro clarified: «Fratelli d’Italia has never been in favor of the primaries, nor of the Five Star system where one was a candidate with thirty votes on the internet. We have a sharp and intelligent, expert ruling class, capable of deciding better than the primaries. Often – he added – the primaries, as seen in the Democratic Party, probably did not elect Schlein, the best candidate in the field, with a series of people who went to vote probably outside the party itself. For us the party – he concluded – comes before anything else.”
