“Why, if the Municipality is not structurally in deficit, was it necessary to divert the resources intended for new hires to restore the budget accounts in the next three years?” This is one of the questions contained in a detailed document made public by the opposition councilor Mimmo Gianturco who speaks of “opaque management of the municipal budget” and underlines that “resources for new hires are at risk”. Just two days ago, the Municipal Council led by Mayor Paolo Mascaro approved the personnel needs plan that includes 40 new hires between now and 2026 and 23 this year.
But for the minority representative, “about 2 million euros”, the new hires planned will be “sacrificed to cover a new recovery of the municipal budget accounts”. “And this – observes Mimmo Gianturco – makes one think that evidently the accounts are not perfectly in order as the municipal administration would have us believe”.
“First of all – the councilor elected on the “Lamezia prima di tutto” list begins – it is necessary to clarify that the mayor continues to maintain that the Municipality is not structurally in deficit and that the recovery of the accounts has been conducted in a careful manner. However, if these statements are correct, it is not possible to understand why the resources allocated to new hires amounting to approximately 2 million euros per year are diverted to the recovery of the budget for the next three years, recovery of the accounts that should not exist in a context of financial equilibrium”.
