They would have favored the absconding of two people linked to the Cirò ‘Ndrangheta club who had already been definitively convicted. For this reason, the Carabinieri of the Crotone Provincial Command carried out a precautionary custody order this morning against seven people, believed to be involved in various capacities in a complex network of supporters aimed at encouraging the absconding of the two members of the clan. The provision was issued by the investigating judge at the request of the Catanzaro DDA. The activity, conducted by the Carabinieri and started in July 2024, made it possible to reconstruct a logistical support system which, according to the investigators, would have facilitated the absconding of Carmine Siena, aged 43, and Antonio Anania (52), already definitively convicted after the ruling of the Supreme Court in 2024 for mafia association in the context of the abbreviated trial resulting from the “Stige” operation.
The two, both from Cirò Marina, had to serve residual sentences of 3 years and 25 days and 5 years and 2 months of prison respectively and had been on the run for about a year. Siena was captured on 6 August 2024, while Anania was captured on 19 November 2024. The investigations documented continuous assistance to fugitives, including the delivery of telephone cards registered to third parties, useful – according to the prosecution – to evade ongoing investigations and maintain contact with the mafia organisation. The contested conduct constitutes the crime of procured non-compliance with the sentence, aggravated by having favored the activity of the mafia association, as well as the hypothesis of mafia-style criminal association. Pre-trial detention in prison was ordered for five of the suspects, while house arrest was applied for two others.
