“My administration and I are not against the construction of the university hospital in Rende if it is a university hospital.” The mayor of Cosenza Franz Caruso said this when commenting on the signature this morning at the regional headquarters for the construction of the new university hospital on the Unical grounds in the municipality of Rende.
“We – said Caruso – are not against what is now called a university hospital because it performs a different function from the hub. But it should be clarified what the function of this new structure is if it is a second level hub or if it is a university hospital. If the university hospital were to be built we agree that it should be built at Unical, but if it is the hub it must be in Cosenza. In Italy there is no capital city that does not have a hub hospital. It is not a question of the bell tower but one is a question of defense of a local service. We fought for the establishment of the faculty of Medicine at Unical. But we cannot accept as a reason that the hub should be built at Unical of Law, let’s move the Court to Unical. I – concluded Caruso – will always fight for efficient public healthcare”.
