“Do not be afraid of your ambitions.” This is the message that the regional councilor for Education, Eulalia Micheli, addresses to Calabrian girls and boys on the eve of the start of the new school year.
In his greeting, the councilor invites students not to scale back their dreams in the face of the difficulties and uncertainties that can accompany every new beginning: “Have the courage to imagine the future you desire and work to build it”.
“Dream big and give yourself the chance to try, without letting others establish how far you can go,” says councilor Micheli, also underlining the importance of not measuring one’s worth exclusively through scholastic results.
“And don’t let a grade tell you how much you are worth”, is the invitation of the regional councilor, who reminds us that “an insufficiency does not define your value, just as a good grade does not alone tell you everything you are capable of doing”. What will make the difference, over time, will be “curiosity, the desire to learn, the ability to get involved, to make mistakes and to get back up”.
The message also includes the theme of respect and attention towards the most fragile companions. “Don’t look the other way when you see a classmate in difficulty,” asks councilor Micheli, inviting those who are going through a difficult moment to turn to a teacher, a parent or a trusted adult. “Asking for help is not a weakness.”
“It is also for this reason that we brought the psychologist into Calabrian schools: because the discomfort must be listened to before it becomes greater”, underlines the councilor, reiterating the idea of a school that is not only a place of study, but also a space in which “no one should feel alone”.
Education councilor Micheli therefore calls on students to participate, hence the invitation to ask questions, express their ideas and participate, but also to have “the courage to say what doesn’t work and to propose how to improve it”. A path through which, he underlines, “you learn, little by little, to be citizens”.
In his message, Councilor Micheli finally extends a “sincere thanks” to the school managers, teachers, school staff and families, who accompany the growth of the children.
“As a Region we have a specific responsibility: to ensure that economic conditions or the place in which one is born do not become a limit to opportunities. This is why we will continue to invest in the right to education”, states Micheli.
And he entrusts his final message to the new generations: “Calabria needs your talent, your creativity, your ideas and your courage”.
