«I have a very solid relationship with the national leaders of the parties, who trust the choices that we will make together». This was stated by the President of the Calabria Region, Roberto Occhiuto, with reference to the negotiations for the formation of the first Council of his second mandate, at the end of the evaluation of the 2024 financial statements by the Court of Auditors. “The formation of the Council – continued Occhiuto – will be as collegial as possible, but I will ask the parties for profiles of people who are in a position to lead the Departments of the Region”.
“Administration surplus was a notable result”
«After so many years, Calabria is finally no longer in deficit, it has exited the administration plan to return to surplus. This is an extraordinary result that I am very happy about.” Thus Occhiuto at the end of the evaluation of the 2024 financial statement by the Court of Auditors. «I am also very happy with the fact that – he continued – the Court of Auditors has recognized that all the resources of the old community programme, that of 2014-2020, have been spent. There was still someone who said that we would return resources and there would be delays: this is obviously not the case. And I am also happy that they recognized the work done in bringing normality to healthcare accounting. It is clear, then, that there are many shadows but when I participated in the first equal judgment there were only shadows and no positive elements. Today – the President of the Region continued – I see that there is a lot of appreciation from the Court of Auditors which, usually, everywhere, not only in Calabria, is not lavish in appreciation towards the public administration”. Occhiuto dedicated one passage to the results of the equalization on healthcare management: «I find – he said – that the report of the Court of Auditors this year was positive as never in previous years: it essentially recognized that we are also in surplus here, that we have brought order to the healthcare accounts, it recognized that Calabria is the region that has increased the Lea the most. Then, we all know that this work of rebuilding the health system has only just begun and that we cannot think, while we are still under police administration and in the recovery plan, of being able to address and solve all the problems in a short time.”
