In the municipal villa of the urban area of Corigliano, serious damage was detected in the space dedicated to Fabiana Luzzi. Municipal staff found the red shoe torn off and thrown from a distance, then recovered and already entrusted to restoration to be relocated. The bench that is part of the memorial trail was also damaged. The absence of remote surveillance systems in the park makes it difficult to reconstruct what happened, and at the moment there are no useful elements to trace the perpetrators.
The president of the Corigliano Rossano municipal council, Rosellina Madeo, underlined how similar episodes demonstrate that a part of society has not yet fully understood the meaning of these symbols and the value they contain. He expressed closeness to the Luzzi family, forced to relive further pain and offense due to the outrage to the young woman’s memory.
Fabiana Luzzi, sixteen years old, was killed on 24 May 2013 by her then boyfriend, a minor, who stabbed her several times with a knife and then attempted to set her on fire while she was still alive. A crime that deeply affected the territory and which remains an open wound. In 2016, the 18-year sentence arrived and, in March 2025, compensation was ordered for the family, also recognizing the responsibility of the boy’s parents for their lack of supervision.
