The Fiamme Gialle of Crotone have dealt a severe blow to the market of unsafe products, withdrawing thousands of potentially harmful items from the market. In fact, the Financiers, following targeted inspections in various commercial establishments in the province, proceeded with the administrative seizure of over 16,000 Christmas items. The value of the goods is estimated at over €30,000.

Toys and decorations without CE marking

The list of seized goods includes stickers, stickers, decorations and Christmas toys as well as tips and light chains, all of which do not comply with the dictates of the Consumer Code as they do not have the “CE” mark or the minimum identifying information that must be present on the packages or labels (such as the manufacturer or importer, the country of origin, the indications in Italian and the nature of the materials used for production).

The risk of toxic materials

The absence of these certifications often hides the use of poor quality or toxic raw materials, used by unscrupulous producers to reduce costs and fuel unfair competition to the detriment of honest companies.

Seizure but also sanctions

In addition to the immediate seizure of the goods, the owners of the businesses – very popular sales points due to the vast assortment – were accused of violating the Consumer Code. The administrative sanctions detected overall exceed 2,500 euros.

In 2025 alone

In 2025 alone, the Crotone Financial Police Group seized around 400 thousand irregular items, for an estimate of over 1 million euros. The operation conducted constitutes further evidence of the daily commitment of the Guardia di Finanza to combat the sale of products that do not comply with safety requirements, with the dual objective of protecting the health and safety of consumers and guaranteeing economic operators who respect the rules a market characterized by conditions of fair and fair competition.
